Not only F-16s: Norway to deliver NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine
Norway is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine worth €500 million. It will include F-16 fighter jets and NASAMS air defense systems, says the director of the International Defense Cooperation Department of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, Hennadiy Kovalenko, at the Kyiv Security Forum.
He discussed the details of the visit by Norway's Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram to Odesa. Ukrainian military officials showed Gram the rehabilitation center for servicemen and the fortifications at the border, and they also informed him about the security situation.
"He emphasized the new aid package from Norway amounting to €500 million, which includes F-16s and NASAMS systems," Kovalenko said.
Norway also expressed its readiness to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry.
Aid from Norway
Norway is providing military assistance to Ukraine. It also joined the aviation coalition. As part of the agreements, Ukraine received its first F-16 fighter jets from partners.
Norway's Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram visited Odesa recently, where he met with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov. Umerov thanked Norway for allocating the new military aid package of €500 million and for the decision to transfer six F-16 aircraft by the end of the year.
Norway will also allocate $118.8 million for the purchase of weapon systems and spare parts for Ukrainian F-16s.
