North Korea seeks capability to launch long-range missile strikes
White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby has stated that North Korea is attempting to develop long-range ballistic missiles, according to his briefing.
A White House representative has disclosed that, according to U.S. intelligence information, North Korea continues its efforts to advance capabilities in military production, including the development of long-range ballistic missiles.
He added that the U.S. is working to ensure the security of its allies in the region, particularly Japan and South Korea.
"We’re going to do what we have to do to make sure we can protect the United States, protect our allies and partner," stated Kirby.
North Korea's aggressive policy
In recent weeks, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has made a series of statements indicating his desire and readiness to initiate war with the South. However, as reported by the media, Pyongyang has a significant reason to avoid escalating the conflict, as the pace of economic growth in North Korea has reached its highest level in nearly a decade due to arms sales to Russia.
On the eve, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea announced new sanctions against individuals and organizations associated with North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
It was also reported that North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, causing concern in Japan.
The New York Times reported that the U.S. is considering the possibility of military actions between North Korea and South Korea in the coming months.
