North Korea’s armed forces launched around 10 missiles toward the Yellow Sea about an hour before US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth arrived at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea, according to Yonhap.

North Korea reportedly launched around ten multiple rocket launcher systems (MLRS) missiles toward the Yellow Sea, coinciding with the joint visit of the South Korean and US defense chiefs to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) dividing the two Koreas.

According to reports, on November 3, the defense ministers of South Korea and the United States jointly visited the DMZ for the first time since 2017.

Military officials also confirmed that North Korea had fired an additional ten rockets on Saturday, November 1, while South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Chinese leader Xi Jinping were holding high-level talks in the southeastern city of Gyeongju during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said that their forces were closely monitoring North Korea’s actions and maintaining a high level of combined readiness with US forces.

Although North Korea’s use of MLRS does not violate UN Security Council resolutions, its 240 mm systems are capable of targeting Seoul and the surrounding areas.

North Korean missile tests

As previously reported, on October 28, North Korea conducted a test of a sea-to-surface cruise missile in the Yellow Sea. The missile, specially modified for ship-based vertical launches, reportedly flew for two hours and ten minutes.

Further details, including the missile’s name, range, and launch site, were not disclosed. The test occurred shortly before US President Donald Trump’s trip to the APEC summit, after which he pledged to "deal with the country."
