Ukraine and Russia must end the war as soon as possible. There is no time to listen to the philosophical musings of the Russian President's aide Vladimir Medinsky, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Axios.
The Ukrainian head of state expressed concern that the Russian delegation led by Medinsky might try to turn the peace talks into a mere formality or return to square one to buy time for their soldiers on the battlefield.
Zelenskyy noted that, like President Vladimir Putin, Medinsky enjoys philosophizing about the "historical roots" of the war.
"We don't have time for all this s***. So we have to decide, and have to finish the war," he stressed.
Putin’s ideologue
Vladimir Medinsky is a key Kremlin ideologue responsible for shaping and spreading a distorted version of history to serve Vladimir Putin’s regime.
As head of the Interdepartmental Commission on Historical Education, he oversees the unification of state propaganda and combats "foreign influence" on historical memory.
According to the project Skhemy, Medinsky directly supervises the creation of Russian history textbooks that justify the occupation of Ukrainian territories and, through the Russian Military-Historical Society, organizes ideological activities in areas of Ukraine occupied by Russian forces.
Investigators note that Medinsky’s role is to give an "intellectual form" to Putin’s imperial ideas.
Russia decided to send him to the third round of negotiations with Ukraine, held on February 17–18 in Geneva.
