No Russian missile carriers detected in Black and Azov Seas for nearly week - Ukrainian Navy
As of 06:00 a.m. on August 24 (according to the Kyiv time zone), no carriers of the Kalibr missiles have been detected in the Black and Azov Seas, according to the morning report from the Ukrainian Navy.
It is noted that Russian ships have been absent from these two seas for nearly a week, since August 18.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have detected two Russian ships in the Mediterranean Sea. However, none of them are missile carriers.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Navy noted that within a day, in the interests of Russia, the following vessels passed through the Kerch Strait:
- to the Black Sea - 12 vessels, 9 of which continued towards the Bosporus Strait;
- to the Azov Sea - 7 vessels, 2 of which were moving from the Bosporus Strait.
"Russia continues to violate the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) by disabling Automatic Identification Systems (AIS)," the Navy reiterated.
It is worth noting that, according to Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk, the Russians are not risking deploying surface ships to the Black and Azov Seas. Currently, all combat-ready units of the Russian fleet are based at the port of Novorossiysk. Meanwhile, the enemy primarily relies on submarines to maintain a maritime presence.
“Essentially, one submarine goes to sea while another replaces it. This not only allows for a demonstration of presence but also ensures the security of the base,” Pletenchuk reported.
