There is not a single power plant left in Ukraine that Russian troops have not struck during the war. Thousands of megawatts of generation capacity have been knocked out, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal during the Government Question Hour.

Russia is using its entire arsenal against critical infrastructure facilities: ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and modernized drones. Over the past year, they carried out 612 targeted combined attacks on the energy sector.

The intensity is now only increasing, with strikes occurring daily. There is not a single power plant left in Ukraine that the enemy has not hit during the war, Shmyhal emphasized.

“Thousands of megawatts of generation have been knocked out. No one in the world has ever faced such a challenge. Despite this, our power system remains intact, Ukrenergo dispatchers maintain control over it, although they are forced to impose significant restrictions on consumption,” he said.

The most difficult situation now is in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as in the Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions, and in all frontline communities.

Restrictions are in effect across the country for household consumers, as well as for industry and business.

“The situation is very difficult. In some cities and regions, preparations were a failure. In these two days in office, I have seen that too many things are frankly stalling. Now we will restore order in an accelerated mode and speed up processes,” Shmyhal added.

Power supply situation in Ukraine

The Russian army carried out two massive strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities recently.

As a result of these attacks, Kyiv has been experiencing significant problems with electricity and heating. Emergency power outages have been introduced across the capital.

Today, Russian forces continued strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Energy, power outages are being recorded in the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions.

Also today, emergency power outages are in effect in Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine, while strict outage schedules will apply in the rest of the territory.
