No comparison: Ambassador Brodsky on air raid experience in Israel and Ukraine

In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky says that air raid alerts in Israel can't compare to what Ukrainians endure daily during a full-scale war.
According to Brodsky, during air raid alerts in Israel, people typically stay in shelters for 10–15 minutes before returning to normal life.
"Here, an alert can last for hours," he emphasized, drawing a stark contrast with the situation in Ukraine.
Brodsky noted that while rocket attacks in Israel are frequent, they are usually short.
"There are episodes when Israeli territory is shelled - from Gaza, Iran, the Houthis, or Hezbollah," he explained. However, he stressed that Ukraine's situation is fundamentally different.
"Ukraine has been at war for four years now, and sadly, there's no end in sight," the ambassador added.
He pointed out that Ukrainian society is experiencing deep exhaustion and moral fatigue.
"During the four years I've spent in Ukraine, we haven't had proper sleep - we constantly hear sirens," said Brodsky.
On Israeli support for Ukraine
Speaking about Israeli support, Brodsky acknowledged that mistakes made by some Ukrainian officials in 2022–2023 affected the level of active engagement. Nonetheless, public sentiment in Israel remains largely favorable.
"Most Israelis still support Ukraine," Brodsky noted.
At the same time, he admitted that the war in Ukraine is no longer a top headline in Israeli media, as Israel itself has faced numerous crises over the past year. Still, if asked today whom Israelis support - Russia or Ukraine - the overwhelming majority would still say Ukraine.
Air attacks on Ukraine
Air raid alerts are declared regularly across Ukraine - in many regions, sirens sound daily, often multiple times a day. Due to Russia's large-scale missile and drone strikes, Ukrainians are often forced to remain in shelters for extended periods, significantly affecting their emotional well-being and daily lives.
