No clear frontrunner in US presidential race - CNN
The updated average of national opinion polls continues to show no clear frontrunner in the presidential race: on average, 50% of voters support Vice President Kamala Harris, while 49% support former President Donald Trump, CNN reports.
Of the 5 polls included in the sample, 2 give Harris a slight advantage over Trump, while the other three state a virtual dead heat in the race.
The latest average data includes a poll released on October 16 by Fox News, which found no clear frontrunner in the presidential race at the national level: 50% of potential voters support Trump in a head-to-head matchup, while 48% support Harris.
According to the Fox poll, 8 out of 10 registered voters who support Trump said they mostly support him over Harris, while 66% of registered voters who support Harris said they mostly vote for her over Trump.
When voters were asked to describe in their own words the main issue or factor that prompted them to vote, the most common reasons among Harris supporters were dislike of the other candidate, defense of democracy, and abortion; among Trump supporters, the economy, immigration, and candidate characteristics.
The US presidential election will be held on November 5. The outcome of the election is likely to be decided by a small number of voters in swing states such as Pennsylvania.
