Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who rose to worldwide fame for his role as Jaime Lannister in the TV series "Game of Thrones," has arrived in Kyiv and visited the site of a nighttime Russian strike that killed one person.

What the actor said

At the strike site, the actor spoke with Novyny.LIVE journalist Anastasiia Zhydenko. In his comments, he explained why he visited Ukraine and shared his impressions of what he saw.

"As always, civilians are the ones who suffer during war," Coster-Waldau said, commenting on the aftermath of the Russian attack.

The actor inspected the impact site and noted that ordinary people with no involvement in the fighting are the ones who suffer most from Russian strikes.

The actor's visit also caught the attention of local residents. Journalist Iegor Shumikhin posted on Facebook that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau had come to see the aftermath of a Russian strike on the Comfort Town residential complex.

"Jaime Lannister came to check out the aftermath of the enemy strike on my residential complex. What about you?" he wrote.

Why Nikolaj Coster-Waldau came to Ukraine

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau visited Ukraine as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a position he has held since 2016. In this role, the actor raises international awareness of humanitarian issues, climate change, and gender equality.

According to Coster-Waldau, one goal of his visit is to remind the world of the war in Ukraine and the need for international support.

"It's all about raising awareness and making sure people don't forget about a country that is holding on but needs support from the international community. Especially now, as winter approaches," the actor explained during his visit to Kyiv.

According to Reuters, during his visit, Coster-Waldau also spent a night in a shelter at Kyiv's Zoloti Vorota (Golden Gates) metro station. On the night of October 28–29, when the capital was under threat of Russian missile and drone attacks, he went underground along with Kyiv residents.

During his stay in the capital, the Danish actor met with Ukrainian soldiers undergoing treatment and attended the play "A One-Day Hero" by veteran Volodymyr Tuka. The actor said visiting Ukraine was his personal initiative.
