Zelenskyy said he spoke with Ukraine’s negotiating team after all meetings in Abu Dhabi. Reports are scheduled for today. Some details were discussed by phone, but not everything.
“America has proposed, for the first time, that the two negotiating teams—Ukraine and Russia—meet in the United States, likely in Miami, in a week. We have confirmed our participation,” the president said.
According to him, prisoner exchanges will continue, and the teams will keep working on this issue.
The United States also proposed that both sides once again support US President Donald Trump’s initiative to halt strikes on energy infrastructure. Ukraine agreed, while Russia has not yet confirmed.
“The military held talks and understood how, if politicians decide to end the war, the ceasefire would be technically monitored by Ukraine, Russia, and the US. That is, the US confirms its participation. As for Europe, this does not mean they will not be involved—I am simply saying what was and was not discussed at the meeting in Abu Dhabi,” Zelenskyy added.
He also said Ukraine once again reaffirmed its position on Donbas.
“‘We stand where we stand’ is, in our view, the fairest and most reliable model for a ceasefire today,” the president noted.
According to Zelenskyy, the US side again raised the issue of a free economic zone.
“I want to remind you: neither Ukraine nor Russia has ever been enthusiastic about the idea of a free economic zone. Russia wants us to leave the Donetsk region, while we said the most reliable position is ‘we stand where we stand.’ The American side proposes this as a compromise. And we note that the sides discussed this issue,” he added.
Talks in Abu Dhabi
On February 4–5, the second round of peace talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi.
Following the meeting, the sides described the discussions as constructive. According to National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, the delegations discussed ways to implement a ceasefire and monitor the halt in hostilities.
President Zelenskyy announced that the Ukrainian delegation is returning home, while preparations for the next trilateral meetings are already underway. Earlier, he said the talks are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
