In the UK’s local elections, the right-wing populist Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, defeated the Labour Party led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Politico reports.

According to the outlet, Farage won over the Labour Party in elections in the northwest of England, which will grant Reform UK hundreds of seats in local councils.

The elections revealed that the surge in popularity of Reform UK, which has recently taken the party to the top of public opinion polls, is real.

"That in turn means it is no longer fantasy politics to ask whether sooner or later Farage himself could end up as Britain’s Prime Minister," Politico says.

As previously reported, Nigel Farage, leader of the British right-wing populist party Reform UK, unexpectedly supported Ukraine’s NATO membership.

Earlier, Farage had claimed that NATO and the European Union had provoked Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.

Now, he believes that closer ties between Kyiv and the West should be part of a long-term solution.
