A new strain of the coronavirus, Stratus, has been detected in the Poltava region. Globally, the share of this COVID-19 variant has increased from 7.4% to 22.7% over the past month, according to the Facebook page of the Poltava Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to reports, the Public Health Center has classified the pathogen detected in patients from the Poltava region as belonging to the XFG genetic lineage.

The World Health Organization has included the XFG lineage of COVID-19 among the variants "under monitoring" due to the rapid spread of this strain, named Stratus. Its global share has increased from 7.4% to 22.7% in just one month.

The Center noted that current data do not indicate a more severe course of illness or an increase in mortality.

Epidemiologists warn that hoarseness is a rare but noticeable symptom of the Stratus variant. A hoarse, rough voice may be a sign of infection, although the main symptoms, cough, fever, and fatigue, remain typical.

Experts believe that this strain does not cause more severe illness, and the currently used vaccines are expected to remain effective against it, including in preventing serious outcomes.

COVID-19

Experts previously identified the main symptom of the new contagious strain of COVID-19 that is spreading globally. According to doctors, the new variant could trigger an outbreak during the holiday season.
