Ukraine has spotted a new Russian cruise missile called the Filin, which has a range of up to 1,200 kilometers, according to Ukrainian presidential adviser Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov.
The Filin missile can reach speeds of up to 800 km/h and fly at altitudes of up to 6 kilometers. Its warhead weighs roughly as much as the payload of one or two Shahed drones.
The missile's main advantages are its speed and maneuverability, its ability to be launched from helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles without requiring specialized drone launch platforms, and its use of Russian-made components.
The weapon is manufactured by JSC Research and Production Association Molniya, a company that previously produced guided aerial bombs. The missile is powered by a Russian-made jet engine also used in the S71 and the Bandерol weapons.

Ukraine's Defense Intelligence is systematically identifying enemy missiles and UAVs and analyzing their components.
The main goal is to identify and block supply channels for components used by Russia's military-industrial complex.
Russia began using the new Filin cruise missile against Ukraine in late summer.
At the time, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence revealed the missile's key specifications, noting that Russia was seeking to increase its use of low-cost weapons powered by domestically produced engines.
In addition, Ukrainian intelligence is systematically examining foreign components found in Russian weapons.
For example, the Defense Intelligence previously published a list of foreign-made components used in Kometa anti-jamming navigation modules. Russian forces install these units on their missiles and drones on a large scale.
