The second round of talks between the US and Iranian delegations is scheduled for Wednesday morning, April 22, according to CNN.

According to CNN sources, US Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation and fly to Pakistan today. Parliamentary spokesperson Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will lead the Iranian delegation.

According to The Express Tribune, citing official sources, preparations for the talks in Islamabad are in the final stage. From Sunday through Monday evening, 11 planes carrying personnel, equipment, and supplies arrived in Pakistan.

The outlet reports that advance teams have nearly completed preparations of the venue, while the main delegations are expected on Tuesday. The Iranian delegation may also arrive in Islamabad by the evening of the same day.

The Pakistani side is officially refraining from comment. Still, journalists report that in private conversations, it acknowledges that the key uncertainty lies in the positions of both sides ahead of the dialogue.

Diplomatic sources also note that unofficial contacts between Washington and Tehran are ongoing.

US–Iran talks

The first round of talks, which concluded in Islamabad (Pakistan) on April 12, did not produce significant results.

US Vice President JD Vance said the negotiations lasted more than 21 hours, but the sides failed to reach an agreement because Iran did not provide firm guarantees to abandon nuclear weapons development.

Yesterday, Tehran stated that Iran would not participate in another round of talks with the United States.

US President Donald Trump also said that extending a two-week truce with Iran is "highly unlikely," adding that the Strait of Hormuz would remain blocked until an agreement is reached.

However, Axios reported today, citing its own sources, that Vance will travel to Islamabad on Tuesday morning for talks with Iran.

It is also expected that Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may join the negotiations, potentially arriving in Islamabad to participate in the dialogue.
