New checkpoint near Ukraine-Poland border nears completion

In Lviv region, the construction of a new border checkpoint with Poland is nearing completion. This concerns the Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice checkpoint, according to the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi.
According to him, the international automobile border checkpoint Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice will be operational in six months.
The construction of the checkpoint began in September 2021. Currently, it is in its final stages.
Also, the Lviv Regional State Administration and the Subcarpathian Voivodeship have sent proposals to the ministries of development of both countries for the construction of a railway connection at the Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice ckpoint. They are currently awaiting a response.
The Lviv Regional State Administration reminded that the tracks on the Sambir - Khyriv and State Border - Staryava - Khyriv - Nyzhankovychi - State Border sections have been completely refurbished for international passenger or freight rail transport. Currently, the launch of four regional international trains, each with a capacity of 206 passengers, is under consideration.
Ukrainian border blockade
On November 6, 2023, Polish carriers began strikes at the border with Ukraine. Polish protesters demanded the return of the permit system for Ukrainian carriers.
On January 17, 2024, the Polish government signed an agreement with carriers to unblock the border with Ukraine. Under the agreement, the parties agreed to suspend protests at the approaches to three border checkpoints until March 1.
At the end of January, the European Commission recommended extending the suspension of import duties for agricultural goods from Ukraine for 2024. Polish farmers immediately stated that they did not support this decision.
On January 9, Polish farmers blocked three border checkpoints with Ukraine, complicating the movement of trucks and railways. Yesterday, the border checkpoint Shehyni-Medyka was unblocked in Poland.
