The habit of eating after 21:00 can be very harmful to health. It can lead to obesity and increase cholesterol levels, reports Surrey Live.

Why you can't eat late in the evening

Dr. Sarah Berry warned that eating after 9 p.m. can lead to several harmful health effects, such as increased obesity, especially belly fat, increased inflammation, and worsened blood cholesterol lipid profiles. This applies even if nighttime snacking is considered healthy.

Meal times play an important role in how the body processes food thanks to its internal biological clock.

Often people snack 2 to 3 times a day, which means six to seven meals a day. This has a huge impact on the ups and downs of glucose levels throughout the day, causing metabolic chaos.

Dr. Berry added that every cell in the body has an internal clock that is affected by dietary patterns, which can affect the day-to-day functioning of the metabolism.

A study found that if you snack late at night, it is associated with adverse health outcomes.

Abdominal fat can be either visceral - deep inside the abdomen - or subcutaneous - just under the skin.

What is chrono-nutrition

There's a whole new area in nutrition called chrono-nutrition, which is about the timing of meals. Every cell in our bodies has a "clock". It's shaped by when we eat and also by the cycle of daylight.

For women whose biological rhythms are influenced by hormonal fluctuations throughout life, chrono-eating offers a promising path to improved well-being and overall health.

Eating late at night, especially after 9 p.m., can disrupt the body's internal clock, leading to increased hunger, weight gain, digestive problems, and poor sleep quality. The body is not prepared to process food shortly before bedtime, which can affect hormonal balance and metabolic rate.

The study showed a clear difference in blood glucose and lipid levels among participants who snacked after 9 p.m. (32%) compared to those who refrained from evening snacks (68%).

Late-night eating can increase acid reflux and affect blood sugar regulation, blood pressure, and weight management. It is important to pay attention to when your body is really hungry, avoiding excessive food intake.
