Netanyahu to present Lebanon ceasefire deal today
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to present a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon to the Cabinet today, November 26, according to The Guardian.
According to the outlet, Netanyahu stated that Hezbollah is "not the same Hezbollah anymore," and Israel has pushed the group "decades back."
"We’ve destroyed most of the rockets and missiles. We’ve killed thousands of terrorists, and we destroyed the underground and terrorist infrastructure near our borders," Netanyahu said.
The Israeli Prime Minister also declared he is "determined" to ensure the safety and lives of Israeli soldiers.
"That’s why tonight, I will bring before the cabinet a plan for a ceasefire in Lebanon," he added.
According to Netanyahu, the duration of the ceasefire "depends on what happens in Lebanon”.
He noted that Israel has an "understanding" with the US and will retain "full liberty to take military operations if Hezbollah tries to attack us".
"If Hezbollah tries to attack us, if it arms itself and rebuilds infrastructure near the border – we will attack. If they launch missiles, if they dig big tunnels – we will attack," the Israeli Prime Minister said.
Ceasefire in Lebanon
In October, Israel launched an operation against Hezbollah, sending its forces into southern Lebanon.
Israeli authorities stated that by eliminating Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, they aimed to create conditions for the return of Israelis who had left northern Israel.
Meanwhile, media reports that the Israeli government may approve a ceasefire in Lebanon on November 26. Then it will come into force on November 27.
