Netanyahu strikes Gaza without consulting Trump, Axios reports

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu likely did not coordinate his decision to strike the Gaza Strip with US President Donald Trump, Axios reports.
Israel sent the White House and the CIA a video showing Hamas militants staging the discovery of a hostage's remains for the Red Cross. US officials reportedly said they did not view this as a significant violation by Hamas and urged Israel not to take radical action.
Unnamed Israeli officials told Axios that Netanyahu held a meeting to discuss a possible response to Hamas's actions. Although he was advised to strike Gaza, he made no specific decisions and reportedly tried to contact Trump.
Later, Hamas militants attacked Israeli forces in southern Gaza. This was at least the second such incident since the ceasefire began. Following the attack, Netanyahu ordered an immediate strike on the Gaza Strip.
Axios notes that these events appear to have changed Netanyahu's calculation, and he most likely did not discuss his response with Trump - there is no confirmation of any conversation.
Situation in Gaza
On October 28, Israel carried out airstrikes on Gaza after Hamas refused to return the bodies of dead hostages and violated the ceasefire.
The militants are effectively undermining the agreements outlined in the US peace plan for Gaza.
