Netanyahu plans to dismiss heads of Ministry of Defense, IDF, and Shin Bet
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, and Shin Bet Security Services Director Ronen Bar, reports the Times of Israel.
Walla News reporter Tal Shalev mentioned the possible personnel decisions during the main evening news program of public broadcaster Kan.
Referring to sources among the Prime Minister's close associates, Shalev noted that regarding Gallant's dismissal, the question is not if, but when.
According to Shalev, Netanyahu intended to dismiss Gallant after he visited the US, but the planned decision was postponed due to a deadly Hezbollah attack on Majdal Shams and the killing of the Hamas leader and the leader of Hezbollah's military wing.
The journalist added that there are sources in Netanyahu's circle who say that after replacing Gallant, the Prime Minister plans to dismiss IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Shin Bet Security Services Director Ronen Bar.
According to her, the goal of these steps is to remove opposition to Netanyahu's negotiations regarding the return of hostages captured by Hamas on October 7. Shalev says Netanyahu wants to replace the dismissed officials with people who will be dependent on him and follow his directives.
Gideon Sa'ar, the opposition leader of New Hope, is named as a potential candidate for Defense Minister. Allegedly, discussions are underway about a possible overall cabinet reshuffle to create the impression that the Prime Minister is not just dismissing Gallant.
Earlier, the Israeli army announced the elimination of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.
Additionally, the leader of the Hezbollah-backed radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed.
