Israel's new ambassador to the US will be Yechiel Leiter. He was appointed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to The Times of Israel.

"Yechiel Leiter is a highly talented diplomat, an eloquent speaker, and has a deep understanding of American culture and politics,” said Netanyahu.

According to him, the new ambassador will represent Israel "in the best possible way."

About Yechiel Leiter

It is worth noting that Yechiel Leiter is a native of the United States. He obtained a PhD at the University of Haifa.

Leiter previously served as Deputy Minister of Education and as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Finance when Netanyahu held this position.

He also served as Acting Head of the Ports Authority.

Earlier, Netanyahu called Trump's victory in the US presidential election "historic."
