Nearly 6,000 cluster munitions used by Russia against Ukraine – MFA

Since the start of the war, Russian forces have used nearly 6,000 cluster munitions against Ukraine. In particular, the enemy has targeted civilian infrastructure with such weapons, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"Ukrainian competent authorities have already documented at least 5,974 cases of Russia’s use of such (cluster - ed.) munitions," the ministry said in a statement.
The Foreign Ministry highlighted that Russian forces have equipped aerial bombs with cluster munitions and have also used them via rocket systems such as Smerch, Grad, Uragan, and Tochka-U, targeting both Ukrainian military forces and civilians.
The MFA recalled that Russian forces used cluster munitions in the following attacks:
-
On Chernihiv on March 17, 2022 (22 killed and 31 injured);
-
With a Tochka-U missile on the railway station in Kramatorsk on April 8, 2022, during the evacuation of civilians (54 killed and 135 injured);
-
With a Kh-69 missile on Kyiv on June 17, 2025.
"Similar attacks have occurred in Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kherson, Chuhuiv, Dobropillia, Okhtyrka, Zatoka, as well as in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk oblasts, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including children, and extensive destruction of residential, medical, educational, and critical infrastructure," the ministry added.
The MFA emphasized that Russian forces deliberately use cluster munitions to maximize civilian casualties. This is part of their campaign of terror.
Against this backdrop, the ministry called on partner countries and international organizations to respond decisively and firmly. This includes imposing devastating sanctions on the Russian economy and industry, its energy revenues and banking sector, as well as on individuals and legal entities that support the aggression against Ukraine.
The Foreign Ministry also urged partners to provide Ukraine with all types of air defense systems and to strengthen the long-range capabilities of Ukrainian defenders.
Strike on Kremenchuk
Just a few days ago, cluster munitions were found in Kremenchuk following a Russian strike.
In light of this, police emphasized that it is strictly forbidden to touch, move, or approach suspicious objects.
