NATO's Rutte warns Russia's massive arms buildup is a direct threat to US security

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, in an interview with The New York Times, said NATO countries, especially the US, now face a huge geopolitical challenge. Russia is preparing for a new war at an unprecedented pace. Its attempt to seize Europe will be only a stepping stone toward its main goal — an attack on the US.
Rutte explained that the security of the US depends on the situation in three world regions: the Arctic, the Atlantic Ocean, and Europe. The Arctic has become a place where Russians and Chinese feel comfortable. Security in the Atlantic is critically important because it is "our sea" for the US and NATO.
"And you need a secure Europe, because Russia’s here, and Russia is reconstituting itself at an incredible pace — not to attack Norway, but to attack ultimately the US. If the Arctic, if the Atlantic Ocean, if Europe is not secure, the US has a big problem," he said.
Rutte added that the current situation represents a huge geopolitical challenge. First and foremost, it is Russia. Second is China, which has its eyes on Taiwan. Third, there are authoritarian regimes worldwide that cooperate with Beijing and the Kremlin.
"And that is, first of all, Russia, which is reconstituting itself at a pace and a speed which is unparalleled in recent history. They are now producing three times as much ammunition in three months as the whole of NATO is doing in a year. This is unsustainable, but the Russians are working together with the North Koreans, with the Chinese and Iranians, the mullahs, in fighting this unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine," Rutte summarized.
It is worth noting that, according to Mark Rutte, China could force Russia to attack NATO countries if it decides to attack Taiwan. Beijing needs the Kremlin as a factor to distract the US from Asia.
It is no coincidence that China has recently shown support for the Russian regime, although it previously maintained so-called "neutrality." It is also no coincidence that China recently made it clear to European Union representatives that it will not allow Russia to lose or Ukraine to win.
