NATO's collective defense needs faster adaptation over Russian threats, Lithuanian MoD says
Russia will pose a long-term threat to NATO. Therefore, the Alliance needs to adapt its collective defense, states the Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Arvydas Anušauskas.
Lithuania has discussed the possibility of deploying air defense assets in the region with Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, as well as Greece, but specific agreements have not yet been reached.
According to Anušauskas, Russia continues to strengthen its capabilities against the West and will pose a long-term threat to NATO.
"Therefore, it is extremely important for the adaptation of NATO's collective defense, which is currently ongoing, to be implemented as quickly as possible," he said.
Probability of war between Russia and NATO
Previously, Bild published a scenario of military exercises in Germany, during which the German armed forces were preparing for a hybrid attack by Russia on the eastern flank of NATO.
A NATO official commented on Bild's material, stating that the Alliance received a training scenario, which always represents an imaginary situation to test military capabilities in a particular region.
The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania commented on the situation, stating that there was currently no threat of a Russian attack on NATO, as Moscow was focused on the war against Ukraine.
The new President of Finland has recently stated that he considers a Russian attack on his country, which is now a NATO member, to be unlikely.
