Today, December 22, a reconnaissance aircraft, the Boeing P-8A Poseidon, was spotted over the airspace of the Black Sea, according to the Telegram channel Crimean Wind.

Particularly, according to Flightradar, an American aircraft, the Boeing P-8A Poseidon, was observed in the airspace near the coast of Romania. It took off from the NATO base at Sigonella in Sicily. Presumably, it is conducting reconnaissance and monitoring the situation in the Black Sea.

The P-8A is an anti-submarine patrol aircraft developed under the multi-mission maritime aircraft program. It is designed for detecting and neutralizing enemy submarines in patrol areas, reconnaissance, anti-ship operations, and search and rescue missions.

AWACS Flights since the start of the war

It's noteworthy that due to Russian aggression against Ukraine, NATO has strengthened its air presence in the eastern part of the Alliance using fighters, surveillance aircraft, and tankers.

Since February 2022, AWACS aircraft have conducted hundreds of flights over Eastern Europe to monitor Russian military aircraft.

In September, NATO decided to temporarily station Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft in the Lithuanian city of Šiauliai.
