Skepticism about the war with Iran is growing in the United States, with most Americans viewing the use of force as a mistake, according to the results of a poll conducted by The Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos.

According to the results, six in ten respondents, or 59%, called military action against Iran a mistake. This mirrors public sentiment during the Iraq War in 2006, when a majority expressed the same view, as well as polling results from the Vietnam War.
Democrats are the most critical of the military action, with about 90% calling it a mistake. Among independent voters, 71% share that view, compared with 19% of Republicans.
Opinions on Washington’s next steps are divided. Nearly half of respondents (48%) support reaching a peace deal with Iran even if it means less favorable terms for Washington. At the same time, 46% believe the US should continue applying pressure, even if that leads to renewed fighting.
The poll also showed worsening financial conditions for some Americans. About 23% said they are falling behind financially, up from 17% in February. Another 52% said they have enough money only to maintain their current standard of living, while 24% believe their financial situation is improving.
Rising gasoline prices are also affecting consumer behavior. According to the poll, 44% of respondents said they had reduced driving, 42% cut housing-related expenses, and 34% changed their travel plans.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump told Congress that the war with Iran was over, but the actual confrontation has not ended.
In particular, the blockade of Iranian ports is ongoing, which Washington is using as a pressure tool to secure a favorable agreement, primarily regarding Iran giving up its nuclear program.
At the same time, Trump acknowledged that the United States acted "like pirates" while detaining Iranian vessels. According to him, the US seized Iranian tankers and container ships after they left ports, including in Asian waters.
