Moscow to install air defense systems near oil and gas facilities
Moscow has decided to defend its oil and gas facilities with missile systems after Kyiv has intensified attacks on Russian refineries and energy assets in recent months, according to The Guardian.
"We are jointly working, including with colleagues from the Russian National Guard, to cover objects, on installing, accordingly, protection systems such as Pantsir," said Artyom Verkhov, director of energy ministry’s department for gas industry development.
Drone strikes on Refineries
Since January, Ukraine has escalated attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, targeting major refineries to disrupt Russian military supply lines.
The strikes by Ukrainian drones have crippled the production capacity of Russian refineries, affecting between 600,000 to 900,000 barrels per day, which accounts for 10% to 15% of daily oil processing.
The Insider reported that in 2024, there were 15 drone attacks on 13 refineries across nine regions of Russia. Significant damage was inflicted on eight of these facilities.
