The vessel that damaged the power cable connecting Finland to Estonia belongs to a company registered in Dubai. As it turned out, Dubai companies own more than 50 vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet,” Yle reports.

According to an investigation by the Finnish newspaper Yle, the Eagle S, suspected of damaging the Estlink 2 electric cable between Finland and Estonia, is owned by a Dubai-based company.

After Yle checked another 149 vessels linked to the Russian “shadow fleet,” it turned out that at least 55 vessels also belong to companies registered in Dubai.

Approximately one-third of the vessels changed their names within a month of the sanctions or later. A significant number also changed owners or management companies. More than 20% of ships have moved to new flags. But this, as Yle notes, is a normal practice.

At the end of last year, submarine communication cables between Finland and Estonia were damaged in the Baltic Sea. After that, Finland detained the Eagle S, a tanker of the Russian “shadow fleet” that was probably sailing in the area where the cables were broken.

Recently it became known that Finland suspects seven crew members of aggravated vandalism. They were banned from leaving the country.

It was also reported that the United States plans to impose additional sanctions against Russia. The target was supposed to be tankers carrying Russian oil.

Moreover, we wrote that the largest ports in China have closed the entrance for tankers of the Russian “shadow fleet”.

At the same time, RBC-Ukraine wrote that yesterday, January 10, the United States imposed sanctions against the largest oil companies in Russia and beyond.
