Monstera plant will start producing leaf after leaf after using this simple fertilizer
Monsteras in pots are very popular plants in apartments. They are quite easy to grow and not very demanding.
PrzyślijPrzepis reveals what to feed them so that they produce leaf after leaf.
What Monstera loves
In spring, during the period of intensified growth, it's worth paying a little more attention to your Monstera and supporting its root system.
Monstera is not only a trendy and decorative plant but also very beneficial. Like peace lilies, it acts as a natural air filter - absorbing benzene, ammonia, and formaldehyde.
It's crucial to ensure that it develops new healthy leaves, which will purify the air in your apartment.
Proper placement is essential for Monstera. Ideally, it should be placed in a bright spot with indirect sunlight.
Such conditions promote the growth of large, airy leaves. Monstera thrives in a lightweight soil mixture consisting of peat, perlite, soil, and bark.
Water your Monstera regularly but moderately: only when the top layer of soil noticeably dries out. Overwatering can lead to root problems and rotting.
In addition to watering, it's necessary to mist the plant's leaves 2-3 times a week with room temperature filtered water.
Placing a humidifier nearby will further enhance the growth of your Monstera.
The aerial roots growing from the stems are best gently directed towards the side of the pot or, if they are already long, wrapped around a support for the Monstera. Remember, they should not be trimmed.
Thanks to its aerial roots, Monstera absorbs water better, which is very beneficial for it.
What to feed the Monstera
In addition to watering, plants of this type also require fertilization, especially from spring to autumn. During this period, treat your plant with nutrients containing essential elements such as:
nitrogen
phosphorus
potassium.
You can also feed your Monstera with items from your kitchen, such as black tea.
It contains tannins and tea tannin. Both of these substances have a beneficial effect on the plant's immune system and strengthen its root system.
Healthy Monstera roots mean constantly growing new leaves.
If you want to prepare a nutritious brew, prepare 2 teaspoons of tea leaves. Just make sure the tea is natural and doesn't contain flavor additives or artificial aromas.
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over it, stir, and let it cool for 2-3 hours until it reaches room temperature.
This amount is sufficient to feed a large plant at once. Water your Monstera with the prepared tea every 2 weeks.
