Mongolia respects Putin more than international law - Zelenskyy
Mongolia respects Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin more than international law. The country shows more respect for war than for peace, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"If Mongolia does not respect international law, then they accept Putin. And they have implemented the Rome Statute, as far as I know. And it should work for them. And I think this is Mongolia's answer to international law, whether they respect it or not. No, they don't. They respect Putin more than they respect international law," he says.
According to the President, Mongolia today shows more respect for the murderer than for international law - for war than for peace.
"But this does not mean that if several countries do not respect international law, there will be no responsibility for this or that person. Because most countries will still expect responsibility and it will come," Zelenskyy assures.
Putin's visit to Mongolia
On September 2, Putin visited Mongolia. This country, as a signatory to the Rome Statute, was supposed to arrest Putin.
At the moment, Putin must be arrested in 123 countries that have ratified the Rome Statute or recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC. This is because, in March 2023, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin.
Previously, all of Putin's attempts to visit other countries were thwarted at the last minute. Suffice it to recall Putin's attempts to visit South Africa. At the last minute, Putin did not go to the BRICS summit in Pretoria in August 2023.
