Moldova's President appoints new Prime Minister with strong links to Ukraine

Alexandru Munteanu has become the new Prime Minister of Moldova. President Maia Sandu signed the corresponding decree, according to Point reports.
The Moldovan President appointed Munteanu as Prime Minister after consultations with the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS). During the consultations, Munteanu was officially nominated for the post of Prime Minister.
"I wish you success in forming a government that will be able to gain the trust of parliament and meet the most important expectations of citizens: protecting peace, preparing the country for accession to the European Union, strengthening the economy, and improving people's living standards," Sandu said.

Alexandru Munteanu is a Moldovan economist, lecturer, and entrepreneur, born on January 20, 1964, in Chisinau. He studied at Moscow State University and Columbia University.
He is the founder of the investment company 4i Capital Partners, which operates in Moldova, Ukraine, and Belarus, and has experience working for companies such as WNISEF/Horizon Capital and Dragon Capital.
Before his political career, Munteanu worked at the National Bank of Moldova and then at Crédit Lyonnais in Paris. For 10 years, he held a position at the World Bank in Washington, specializing in projects in Africa and the Middle East.
He lived in Ukraine for 20 years and moved to Bucharest after the Russian invasion in 2022. He was also active in civil society, serving as president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova and co-founder of the Moldovan branch of Alliance Française.
News that Munteanu was being considered for the position of Moldovan Prime Minister broke last week.
