Moldova has completed the vote count for the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, September 28, according to the official website of the Central Election Commission of Moldova.
According to the election results, two electoral blocs and three parties will be represented in the future parliament.
The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) leads with 50.2% of the vote. In second place is the Patriotic Bloc, supported by 24.17% of voters.
The Alternative Bloc received 7.96% of the vote. Additionally, Our Party may also enter parliament with 6.2%, alongside the Democracy at Home party, which received 5.62%.
Sandu's reaction
Moldovan President Maia Sandu has already held a press conference following the announcement of the election results.
"I wanted Moldovans to make a choice in favor of Moldova, and I am glad that Moldovans made a decision for Moldova, despite all the interference and the money spent by Moscow. I am glad that our European path is secure. The future government must work with the same care for every citizen, regardless of how they voted," she said.
Elections in Moldova
Moldova elects 101 members to its parliament, and the election on September 28 was held for the first time under the new Electoral Code.
Nearly 2,000 polling stations were opened across the country, with about 300 more abroad. Russia attempted to influence the voting process by supporting Kremlin-aligned political forces. There were numerous reports of alleged bomb threats at foreign polling stations. Moldova's Foreign Ministry assured that the state was prepared for such provocations and was cooperating with other countries to ensure the election process proceeded without disruption.
Sandu had earlier stated that if Moldova were to fall under Russian control, the country could become a staging ground for a Russian military invasion of Ukraine's Odesa region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that if pro-Russian forces entered Moldova's parliament, there could be risks for everyone.
