Moldova back to purchasing diesel fuel from Russia
Moldova has resumed the import of diesel fuel from Russia, even though in the first quarter of this year, Chisinau did not purchase it from Moscow. This was announced by the National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova, reports MoldStreet.
It is noted that Moldova did not import diesel fuel from Russia in the first quarter of 2023, imported slightly over 2 thousand tons in the second quarter, and around 9 thousand tons in the third quarter.
Thus, the share of diesel imported from Russia increased from 0% in the first quarter of 2023 to almost 5% in the third quarter.
What other countries sell diesel fuel to Moldova
Moldova has also increased the import of diesel fuel from Türkiye and India, countries that have become major importers of Russian oil, which they process and export as locally produced products, including diesel fuel.
Romania remains the main fuel supplier to Moldova, accounting for 96.5% of gasoline, 71.6% of diesel fuel, and 54.5% of liquefied gas.
Relations between Moldova and Russia
Moldova has condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and has gradually imposed sanctions against the Kremlin.
Recently, Moldova's President Maia Sandu, by her decree, deprived the leader of the pro-Russian Party of Regions and the Congress of Moldovan Diaspora in the Russian Federation, Alexander Kalinin, of citizenship. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kalinin has openly supported Russian aggression.
It has also been reported that the Kremlin is attempting to influence the results of future elections in Moldova, including through a criminal group led by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor.
