Moldova abolishes sanitary control for grain transit from Ukraine
The Moldovan Parliament has decided to exempt Ukrainian grain transiting through the country from inspections by the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), citing Newsmaker.
In doing so, the parliament has temporarily suspended the law On Plant Protection and Phytosanitary Quarantine concerning Ukrainian grain transported through Moldova to the Romanian ports of Reni and Galati, as well as by rail. This exemption will be in effect until September 14.
"This type of goods crosses our country's territory in specialized vehicles, so the risk of introducing quarantine organisms is minimal. In case of incidents involving transport or cargo during its transit through Moldova, carriers must notify ANSA within two hours," the parliamentary press release said.
Oleksandr Trubka, head of the parliamentary commission on agriculture and food industry and author of the proposal, stated that the adoption of this bill would help solve the issue of non-animal product transit and congestion at the Moldovan border due to the increased flow of goods from Ukraine.
The EU plans to strengthen checks on compliance with agreements during the import of grain from Ukraine.
