Author: Maria Kholina

Martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine have been extended again. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the relevant laws.

President Zelenskyy has signed Law No. 9532 about the extension of the state of war, as well as Law No. 9533 about the extension of the duration of general mobilization.

The state of war and mobilization in Ukraine have been extended for an additional 90 days. They will remain in effect at least until November 15, 2023.

This marks the eighth extension of the term for the state of war and mobilization since the commencement of Russia's full-scale invasion.

State of war

The declaration of a state of war was enacted in Ukraine due to Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. This distinctive legal regime entails granting authorities of state power, military command, military administrations, and local self-government bodies the necessary powers for the swift stabilization of the situation.

Mobilization

At present, a general mobilization is in place in Ukraine. As indicated by the military command, the initial focus is on calling up reservists, former participants of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and Joint Forces Operation, with a gradual increase in troop numbers through the inclusion of military personnel who have completed their service.
