Missile attack on August 6: Air Defense Forces destroyed 57 Russian air targets
According to the Ukrainian Air Force's Telegram channel, from the evening of August 5th to the morning of August 6, Russians launched a massive rocket strike on Ukrainian territory using missiles from air and sea bases, as well as Iranian UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type.
In the first wave of the attack on the evening of August 5th, the enemy deployed 14 sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles and three hypersonic Kh-47 Kinzhal missiles. Out of the 14 Kalibr, 12 were intercepted and destroyed by anti-aircraft defense. As for the Kynzhal, no information has been disclosed.
During the night of August 6, the enemy continued to launch attacks using the strike UAVs Shahed-136/131 from the southeast direction, Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea waters, and Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS strategic bombers originating from the Caspian Sea region.
Through the combined efforts of the Air Force in coordination with other branches of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including anti-aircraft defense, all 27 strike UAVs Shahed-136/131, 5 out of 6 second-wave Kalibr missiles, and 13 out of 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles launched from airbases were successfully neutralized.
Overall, within the span of several waves of attacks from the evening of August 5th to the morning of August 6th, 2023, the adversary deployed a total of 70 aerial offensive assets.
The destroyed assets include:
- 13 Kalibr cruise missiles
- 17 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles
- 27 strike UAVs Shahed-136/131
August 5 missile attack on Ukraine
On the evening of August 5th, Russians initiated a series of rocket launches targeting Ukrainian territory. Initially, there was information about Kalibr missiles coming from the south, heading towards Kyiv, which then diverted towards Khmelnytskyi. Subsequently, the Ukrainian Air Force reported launches of Kinzhal missiles from Tambov and a "hypersonic missile" from the north. Around the same time, information emerged about a missile launch from Belarus.
