Ukraine could soon receive a shipment of French-made missiles for its air defenses, along with Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets, said Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov after a conversation with his French counterpart, Catherine Vautrin.

Boosting air defenses with French missiles

Fedorov said Ukraine expects supplies of ammunition from France for its SAMP/T and Crotale air defense systems, as well as long-range weapons.

The minister thanked France for its readiness to deliver additional French-made missiles in the near future, which will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

Mirage 2000-5 jets: additional deliveries expected

The discussion also highlighted aviation cooperation. Ukraine expects additional deliveries of Mirage 2000-5 jets, which Fedorov said will be an important boost to the capabilities of the Ukrainian Air Force.

Countering Russia’s shadow fleet

Fedorov also emphasized France’s firm stance on limiting the operations of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet. He stressed that cutting Russia’s resources is key to reducing its ability to fund the war against Ukraine.

Fedorov invited Catherine Vautrin to visit Ukraine and expressed readiness to take cooperation to a new level, including in data sharing and joint analysis.

"Thanks to France for its systematic support, leadership, and clear position," Fedorov concluded.

Mirage 2000 in Ukraine

France has announced the delivery of Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine amid ongoing Russian attacks, during which Russia has been using long-range aerial bombs. Before the jets are deployed, Ukrainian pilots have spent several months training at French bases.

Integrating the Mirage 2000 into the Ukrainian Air Force will allow the country to expand its combat capabilities, from air defense interceptions to precision strikes on enemy targets. These fighters have a long history of operational use in the French Air Force and have proven effective in challenging conditions.

RBC-Ukraine has previously published reports on the use of Mirage 2000 in real combat scenarios.
