Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have captured around 30 citizens from Central Asian countries as prisoners of war, stated Ukraine’s Minister of Justice, Olha Stefanishyna.

"The citizenship of prisoners of war is often determined based on their statements, as documents confirming their citizenship are usually absent," Stefanishyna noted.

Additionally, the Ministry of Justice emphasized that "prisoners of war held in detention facilities and camps, regardless of their citizenship, have the same legal status, which is stipulated in both international and national legal acts."

"The citizenship of a prisoner of war, including dual citizenship, does not affect their legal status in any way," the Ministry added.

Ukraine has also managed to secure the release of 25 more of its citizens from Russian captivity. It was reported that a special prisoner exchange format has been established, prioritizing the release of individuals with severe injuries or illnesses.
