Kyiv and Berlin are negotiating the return of Ukrainians of draft age to their homeland. Moreover, a special working group has already been formed, according to Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev.
According to the Ambassador, this concerns only the return of those Ukrainian citizens who left the country illegally.
Makeiev also adds that, overall, this process consists of two components. First and foremost, the Unity Hubs—centers for Ukrainians in Germany.
This initiative involves the government working with the Ukrainian community. The diplomat notes that it is extremely important to explain to people what opportunities and options are available for returning home.
As the Ambassador notes, the first Unity Hub is already actively operating in central Berlin and is gradually expanding its activities.
"The second component is to understand how we can facilitate the return process in cooperation with the Germans. Therefore, a working group has been established between Ukrainian and German agencies to facilitate the exchange of information," Makeiev explains.
The Ambassador confirms that mechanisms are already being developed to repatriate men of draft age who left Ukraine illegally.
"I will not disclose these mechanisms just yet. They are currently being discussed within the framework of this working group," the diplomat concludes.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has spoken out against the EU on the issue of asylum for Ukrainian men of draft age.
The European Union may deny protection to Ukrainian men, but not to all of them.
Meanwhile, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets named the regions of Ukraine where a record number of mobilization violations have been recorded.
