Michel and Zelenskyy discuss financial and military support for Ukraine
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, had a phone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They discussed assistance to Ukraine, according to his tweet.
As Michel explained, his conversation with Zelenskyy was dedicated to the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They also discussed the 10th anniversary of the occupation of Crimea.
"I reaffirmed the EU’s ironclad financial & military support to Ukraine for as long as needed. Russia can never extinguish the flame of democracy in Ukraine. The destiny of Ukraine is in the EU," Michel wrote.
Ukraine's EU accession
In December, the leaders of EU member states approved the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the bloc during a summit, despite threats from Hungary to block such a decision.
As recently stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, negotiations could start in the spring.
Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers also approved an action plan to implement the European Commission's recommendations for starting negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership.
