Mexico refuses to accept plane with US deportees - Reuters
Mexico has declined to accept a plane deporting migrants from the United States. The country rejected the request of US President Donald Trump's administration, Reuters reports.
On January 24, US military aircraft made two flights to Guatemala, each carrying around 80 migrants. However, the United States was unable to implement its plan to land a C-17 transport aircraft in Mexico. The country refused to grant permission for the plane to land.
Migrants are being deported using military aircraft as part of the Pentagon's action plan under the state of emergency declared by Trump.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the country has "excellent relations" with the United States and cooperates on immigration issues while welcoming Mexicans "with open arms."
Earlier, Trump declared a state of emergency along the shared border with Mexico, deploying over a thousand additional military personnel to the area.
Deportation of migrants from the US
It should be noted that the mass deportation program was one of Donald Trump's key campaign promises. Recently, the White House announced that the US has begun deporting undocumented immigrants.
Trump also signed an executive order prohibiting the issuance of citizenship documents to children born in the United States whose parents are either illegally residing in the US or where the mother is temporarily in the US, for instance, on a visa, while the father is not a citizen. However, the court has temporarily blocked this executive order.
According to The New York Times, the US has suspended several programs for admitting immigrants. This also includes Ukrainian refugees.
