Ukraine can count on the new government of Germany, including in the matter of supplying Taurus cruise missiles, states the new Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, in an interview on the ZDF channel.

"President Zelenskyy knows that he can rely on me and the Federal Republic," Merz responded when asked about the supply of Taurus missiles.

According to him, during the post-election transitional period, Germany was too passive on the international stage, but he intends to ramp up its foreign policy. His plans include a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron today, where he aims to discuss support for Ukraine.

Additionally, Merz believes that Poland should be included in the diplomatic format involving Germany, France, and Britain.

Transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine

Earlier, Merz had stated that he was ready to approve the transfer of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

Not only did Merz express his readiness to supply the aforementioned missiles, but he also suggested that Ukraine could use them for strikes on the Crimean Bridge.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's ambassador to Brazil, Andrii Melnyk, stated that the supply of Taurus missiles would be the first test for Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The decision will determine Germany's leadership in the free world.
