Zelenskyy and Trump meet in the Vatican
On April 26, a farewell ceremony for Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, took place in Vatican City. Over 50 world leaders attended the funeral, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump.
Before the mass began, Zelenskyy and Trump held a 15-minute meeting at St. Peter's Basilica. According to the president’s spokesperson, Serhii Nikiforov, the leaders agreed to continue their discussions later that day.
Sky News also reported that another meeting between the two presidents is scheduled.
The White House described the meeting as "very productive." President Zelenskyy also referred to it as a "good meeting," noting that they managed to discuss several important matters.
"We hope for positive outcomes on everything discussed: protecting our people's lives, achieving a complete and unconditional ceasefire, and securing a reliable, lasting peace that prevents future conflict. It was a very symbolic meeting with the potential to become historic if we achieve mutual results," President Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
This was the first meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump since their verbal exchange at the White House on February 28.
