Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, has once again started threatening the West over the article in The Times. The UK considers this reaction a sign of desperation, according to UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

Medvedev’s threats

The Times published an article about the elimination of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical and biological defense troops, in Moscow. The agency highlighted that the killing of the Russian general was a lawful act of defense by a state under threat.

In response, Medvedev declared all NATO officials supporting Ukraine as "legitimate military targets" for Russia. He also called The Times journalists who authored the article as legitimate military targets.

UK Foreign Secretary's reaction

"Russia's Medvedev’s gangster threat against Times journalists smacks of desperation," said Lammy.

He emphasized that British newspapers represent core British values, such as freedom, democracy, and independent thinking.

Elimination of Kirillov

On December 17, RBC-Ukraine's sources reported that the head of the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical and biological defense troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, was killed in Moscow. According to the sources, the operation was organized by the Security Service of Ukraine.

Kirillov and his assistant were eliminated as a result of a scooter explosion.
