Summit of Coalition of the willing
On August 18, leaders of Ukraine, the US, France, Finland, Germany, Britain, Italy, as well as the head of the European Commission and the NATO secretary general, held a meeting at the White House to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine.
In particular, the leaders considered the possibility of security guarantees similar to NATO’s article 5, but without Ukraine’s membership in the alliance.
Later, French president Emmanuel Macron invited the participants of the White House meeting to Paris for further discussions on security guarantees.
On Wednesday, September 3, president Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived on an official visit to Paris and discussed preparations for the summit with Macron.
The French leader declared that European leaders are ready to provide guarantees to Ukraine immediately after the signing of a peace agreement with Russia.
The Coalition of the willing brings together about thirty, mostly European, countries that are prepared to support the armed forces of Ukraine and deploy troops in Ukraine after a truce with Moscow, in order to deter Russia from renewed aggression.
