A gas leak and fire occurred on a major gas pipeline near the settlement of Topki in Russia's Kuzbass region. The incident affected operations at the strategic Azot chemical plant, according to Kemerovo Region Governor Ilya Seredyuk.

Fire at the gas pipeline

A depressurization incident occurred on a gas transmission pipeline in the Topkinsky municipal district, triggering a fire. The blaze has since been extinguished, Seredyuk said.

According to the governor, there are no plans to cut off gas supplies to private consumers. Heating systems will continue operating as normal.

Impact on Azot plant operations

However, under industrial safety regulations, gas supplies to the Azot chemical plant in Kemerovo have been restricted.

The situation is under control, and there is no threat to public safety.

Seredyuk later added that gas pressure had been stabilized and the facility was returning to its normal operating parameters.

JSC Azot is one of Russia's largest chemical plants, located in Kemerovo. The facility is a leading producer of ammonium nitrate and nitric acid — key raw materials required by Russia's military-industrial complex for manufacturing a wide range of industrial and military explosives.

The Kemerovo Azot plant is subject to international sanctions.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that in December 2025, a mysterious "ground subsidence" incident occurred in Russia's Volgograd Region, disabling the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline.

In addition, in August last year, the Central Asia-Center major gas pipeline was put out of operation in Russia's Volgograd Region. The incident occurred following explosions near the village of Dynamovskoye.

Also, on September 9, a series of explosions in Penza disabled a major oil pipeline and a regional gas pipeline.
