Russian forces damaged a critical energy facility in the Nizhyn district of Chernihiv region, leaving hundreds of thousands of consumers without electricity, according to Chernihivoblenergo.

According to the company, power engineers are already working to restore electricity supplies. At the same time, officials noted that due to the difficult security situation, the work may take longer than usual.

Chernihivoblenergo emphasized that everything possible is being done to restore power to consumers’ homes as quickly as possible.

Consequences of the attack on Kyiv on the night of January 24

As a reminder, during the night into today, Kyiv came under a combined Russian attack.

At around 1:00 a.m. on January 24, an air raid alert was declared in the capital due to the threat of drone strikes, after which explosions were heard almost immediately. Later, Russian forces also launched ballistic missiles toward the city.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported the following consequences of the shelling:

  • in the Desnianskyi district, debris fell on a non-residential building;

  • in the Dniprovskyi district, debris from a drone caused a fire at a garage cooperative and a fuel tanker caught fire in a parking lot, while windows were shattered in a residential building;

  • in the Darnytskyi district, drone debris fell near a private medical facility, damaging windows;

  • in the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out in a non-residential area and a private house was damaged;

  • in the Solomianskyi district, debris damaged a six-story office building.

In addition, Kyiv’s left bank experienced disruptions to heating and water supply due to the large-scale Russian attack.
