Massive attack on Ukraine: Borrell calls for strengthening of country's air defense
Tonight, on May 8th, Russia committed another act of war crime. Ukraine urgently needs to strengthen its air defense system, according to the Twitter (X) account of Josep Borrell, the head of European Union (EU) diplomacy.
"Last night Russia launched another massive attack against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, adding to the long list of its war crimes. Ukraine urgently needs adequate air defense systems," said Borrell.
The head of EU diplomacy added that strengthening air defense will be a priority in the work of the Defense Committee along with the launch of the Ukraine Aid Fund.
Massive shelling on the night of May 8
On the night of May 8, Russian forces launched a combined strike against Ukraine using various missiles and attack drones. Overall, the enemy deployed 76 aerial attack assets:
55 missiles;
21 UAVs.
Air defense managed to destroy 59 aerial targets.
As reported by Ukrenergo, Russia targeted the energy infrastructure of several regions, including Lviv, Vinnytsia, and Poltava regions. As a result, power restrictions are possible across Ukraine today from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
