Man detained in Latvia for planning sabotage in Ukraine
The prosecutor's office charged a Latvian citizen with traveling to Ukraine to commit an act of sabotage, reports Delfi.
According to the newspaper, the accused is Ivan Tarabanov, and the hearing in the Riga City Court is scheduled for June 7.
The prosecutor's office said that Tarabanov is accused of attempting to illegally participate in an armed conflict and traveling for the purpose of terrorism. The suspect is currently in custody.
The publication reports that in January 2022, the accused, not being a member of the National Armed Forces of Latvia, violated the provisions of the Law on the Participation of the National Armed Forces of Latvia in International Operations, which defines the legal procedure for the participation of persons in an armed conflict taking place outside the territory of Latvia, in order to actively participate in a military operation and an armed conflict in Ukraine.
The man received a task from an unidentified person - "Alexander" - to conduct a sabotage using elements of arson on the territory of Ukraine. Later, the man traveled to Ukraine to realize his plan.
The prosecutor's office did not disclose any further information.
As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, Russian saboteurs who planned to disrupt aid to Ukraine were arrested in Germany.
