Magnetic storms on January 25 and 26 could significantly affect the well-being of sensitive individuals. Scientists predict a powerful geomagnetic storm that will impact not only people but also the functioning of electronic devices.

RBC-Ukraine provides details on the magnetic storms expected on January 25 and 26, as well as tips on how to minimize their impact on health.

When to expect magnetic storms

According to space weather specialists, increased geomagnetic activity is forecasted for January 25–26.

The primary cause of magnetic storms is solar flares, which release plasma into space. When these streams reach Earth's magnetic field, they trigger geomagnetic disturbances.

Preliminary forecasts indicate that the storms will reach a G1 level of intensity (K-index 5). On January 25, geomagnetic activity is expected to rise toward the evening, peaking on January 26 around midday.

It is important to note that expert forecasts are preliminary, as solar activity is highly variable and geomagnetic conditions can change several times a day.

How magnetic storms affect the body

Magnetic storms influence not only technology and satellite communications but also human health. Here are the main symptoms you might experience:

Headaches, dizziness, and migraines: Increased geomagnetic activity can cause vascular spasms.

Mood swings, irritability, and depressive states: Changes in the magnetic field affect hormone production that regulates emotional balance.

Insomnia: Many people report sleep disturbances during periods of geomagnetic storms.

Exacerbation of chronic illnesses: This is particularly true for cardiovascular conditions like hypertension or arrhythmia.

Other possible symptoms include:

  • Mental fog
  • Daytime drowsiness
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Reduced concentration and productivity
  • Feelings of depression
  • Aggression
  • Nausea

Extensive research has been conducted on the effects of magnetic storms on the human body, with some studies confirming these connections. Many individuals report feeling unwell during periods of magnetic storms.

One study found that strong magnetic storms can affect bioelectrical processes in the human body, leading to sleep disturbances, reduced productivity, heightened anxiety, and irritability.

How to cope with magnetic storms without stress

Stay hydrated: Drink more water to improve circulation and reduce headaches.

Avoid coffee and alcohol: These can worsen feelings of weakness and negatively affect blood vessels.

Stick to a sleep routine: Go to bed earlier and aim for 7–9 hours of rest per night.

Avoid overexertion: Give yourself more time to rest and manage stress.

Take walks: Spend time outdoors, such as in parks or nature. If that’s not possible, ventilate your living space.
