Ukraine's second-ranked player Marta Kostyuk has won the first WTA 1000 title of her career. In the Madrid final, the Ukrainian left little chance to her "neutral" opponent Mirra Andreeva.

Marta's show in Madrid

The final lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes and turned into a true showcase given the 23-year-old Ukrainian.

Kostyuk began the match with remarkable focus, effectively overpowering her opponent from the start—she won her first two service games without dropping a single point.

A key moment in the first set came in the sixth game, where Marta secured a break.

Despite facing two break points while serving for the set, the Ukrainian calmly closed it out 6:3.

The second set turned into a psychological rollercoaster.

After a slow start, Andreeva managed to raise her level and, with a series of strong cross-court shots, even took a 3:1 lead.

However, Kostyuk quickly regained control, showing elite-level tennis. The crucial moment came at 4:5, when the Ukrainian saved two set points on her serve.

The finishing touch came with a spectacular diving passing shot that sealed the match.

As soon as the ball hit the court, Marta could not hold back her tears as the tension of the biggest final of her career poured out.

After collecting herself, she thrilled the crowd by performing a promised celebration—a perfect backflip right on the clay court in Madrid.

While the stands erupted in applause, a different scene unfolded in the background: Andreeva, defeated and in tears, was overcome with frustration and sought comfort from her team.

New queen of court: Records and rankings

The victory in the Spanish capital marked the most significant achievement of Kostyuk's professional career.

It is the third WTA-level title for the Ukrainian, who previously reached finals in Brisbane and Rouen.

Note that until now, only Elina Svitolina (with four such titles to her name) had managed to win WTA 1000-level trophies in the history of Ukrainian tennis.

Thanks to this result, Marta will set a new career-high in the world rankings, climbing to number 15.

This season, Kostyuk has been in outstanding form, extending her winning streak on clay courts to 12 matches.

On her way to the championship trophy, Marta navigated a difficult draw, defeating players such as Yulia Putintseva, Caty McNally, and Anastasia Potapova.

She also overcame world number 5 Jessica Pegula and Czech star Linda Noskova.

Moreover, Kostyuk achieved a unique milestone, becoming the first Ukrainian player to reach finals in all WTA categories within a single season.
